The PAN card is an important KYC document for filing income tax return (ITR), opening a bank account for high value monetary transactions. It is therefore very important to have the correct name and date of birth on your Permanent Account Number (PAN) card. However, it has occasionally been seen that people receive a misspelled name or incorrect date of birth listed on their PAN card. To overcome this problem, you no longer need to move from pillar to post now, you can correct your name and date of birth in your PAN card online.
PAN card correction fee
However, a PAN cardholder should remember that changing name, date of birth in his PAN card is not free. You will have to pay ₹96 ( ₹85 application fee plus 12.36% service charge).
According to the statement available on the NSDL website, “The fee for requesting a new PAN card or/and changes or corrections to PAN data is ₹96.00 ( ₹85.00 processing fee + 12.36% service charge).”
How to correct name, date of birth in PAN card
To correct the name, date of birth in his PAN card, one should go to the NSDL website or its direct link – https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html and follow the mentioned step step by step guide:
1]Login to NSDL link — https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html;
2]Go to the “Application Type” section at the top left and select “Changes or corrections to existing PAN data / Reprint of PAN map” from the drop-down menu;
3]Select the category of your PAN card;
4]Go to the applications menu;
5]Fill in name, date of birth, email id, mobile number and existing PAN number;
6]Enter CAPTCHA; and
7]Click on the ‘Submit’ option.
After submitting the form, you will be given a payment option, where you can pay the PAN card change fee using your debit or credit card.
Steps after payment
Once the payment has been made, the applicant will receive the bank reference number and the transaction number. Save both and click on the “continue” option. Now click on the “Authenticate” option in the box below “Aadhaar Card”. After that click on ‘continue with e-sign’ followed by e-KYC and generate OTP. You will receive OTP to your registered Aadhaar mobile number. Submit this OTP and submit. After OTP submission, a new page will open where applicant will get their form in PDF format. Download and print your form and submit it to NSDL e-Gov office (Building-1, 409-410, 4th Floor, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, PIN: 110001) along with other documents like Aadhaar and other KYC documents .
